Henry Gluckstern concentrates his practice on compliance with state and federal environmental statutes and regulations, real estate transactional environmental compliance and refinancing diligence and the prosecution and defense of environmental claims and insurance recovery related to those claims. In addition, he has more than 20 years experience in personal injury and death cases arising from chemical exposure, defective pharmaceutical and vaccine products, other complex product liability actions and commercial litigation.

Henry has handled environmental defense work as well as environmental insult litigation in both the personal injury and property damage areas. He has been called upon by a number of outside counsel to investigate and evaluate important new chemical exposure incidents, including one of the major chemical exposure incidents in New Jersey history. For 16 years, Henry litigated one of the nation's major asbestos building contamination abatement cost recovery cases, representing Verizon Corporation and its predecessors Bell Atlantic, NYNEX and New York Telephone Company in litigation involving the 252 largest telephone company buildings in the state of New York, including several New York City, Albany and Buffalo skyscrapers.

While representing Verizon Corporation in asbestos litigation, Henry utilized his experience in the real estate transactional, bankruptcy law and due diligence areas as well as his negotiating skills. During this case, Henry had to negotiate with various committees consisting of as many as 15 adverse firms. In addition, he was able to utilize his experience and skill in organizing large, widespread litigation efforts that involved sizeable amounts of sophisticated client interaction as well as identification, selection and orchestration of a multidisciplinary group of outside consultants and expert witnesses. Moreover, he dealt with more than two dozen individual defendants, all major manufacturers and distributors of asbestos-containing products. In connection with those claims, he litigated associated Verizon bankruptcy claims in federal courts throughout the United States.

Henry was Assistant Regional Counsel for the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Region II from 1973-1984 and Associate Regional Counsel from 1984-1986. He worked initially in the area of water pollution and later in the field of toxic and hazardous wastes. When he left the EPA he was Associate Regional Counsel for Waste Programs of Region II. His achievements at the EPA, included acting as co-counsel in the landmark Hudson River Power Case from 1975-1981. That case involved the issue of retro-fitting generating stations on the Hudson River, including the Indian Point Nuclear Generating Station plants, to install cooling towers or other fish-protective devices to rescue several endangered Hudson River fish species. The results of that action were largely responsible for the return of many species of fish to the Hudson River during the following two decades. For his efforts in that litigation, he was awarded the EPA Bronze Medal. In the 1980s, his work in handling some of the earliest multiparty Superfund sites in New York and New Jersey resulted in his earning the EPA Silver Medal for excellence in complex litigation in 1985. Henry's experience in the field of hazardous waste extends back to 1976, when he participated in litigation of the first imminent hazard action to be commenced under the then legally untested Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). See United States v. Kin-Buc, 532 F. Supp. 699 (D.N.J. 1982).
