Peter Sepúlveda focuses his practice on defending healthcare providers and related entities in high-stakes criminal, civil, and regulatory matters. Drawing on his experience in leading healthcare fraud prosecutions for the State of New Jersey, Peter brings an insider’s view of how government investigators build their cases, and how to answer them.

Peter represents clients in state and federal investigations and prosecutions involving allegations of healthcare fraud, kickbacks, commercial bribery, and related offenses. On the civil side, he defends clients in litigation under the federal and state False Claims Acts, insurance fraud statutes, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), and other civil enforcement laws.

Beyond litigation, Peter counsels clients on Medicare and Medicaid compliance. He also guides them through DEA and state regulatory investigations, as well as enforcement actions brought by agencies such as the Bureau of Fraud Deterrence and the Drug Control Unit. He also counsels clients navigating audits and investigations by third-party payors and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs).

From 2013 to 2022, Peter served as Bureau Chief of the New Jersey Medicaid Fraud Control Unit within the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor. In that role, he directed investigations and prosecutions involving fraudulent billing, illegal kickback arrangements, and prescription drug diversion.

Earlier in his career, Peter was a staff attorney in the Investigations Division of the New Jersey Office of the State Comptroller, where he investigated fraud, waste, and abuse of taxpayer funds. He began his career in public service as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
